Sample Mayor's Proclamation

Whereas, The “Communities of Peace” program has proven effective for our community in- directing our attentions and resources to creating a culture of peace, and

Whereas, young people have worked to transform infamy into community through service and the arts; and

Whereas, the city of (name of city, state) has a desire to become a Community of Peace and leading model of safety, nonviolence and prosperity; and

Whereas, (name of city, state) recognizes that ongoing education, and preparation for safe communities is necessary for a peaceful quality of life; and

Whereas, (name of city, state) recognizes that people in all walks of life are positively contributing to the peace and wellbeing of our community

Now, therefore be it resolved that (name of city, state) proudly adopts the designation of “Community of Peace” and

Be it further resolved that (name of city, state) agrees to continue the education programs which support these ideals and practical applications in our community.

Be it further resolved that (name of city, state) will designate a committee who will work with constituencies such as businesses, non-government organizations, churches, social service agencies, civic and neighborhood organizations, media, and youth groups to preserve the peace and study options for maintaining our peaceful community.
